The Webb Brothers are, as their name suggests, brothers, who have the surname
Webb. Justin (guitar) and Chris (keyboards) are the sons of legendary
American song-writer Jimmy Webb who penned classics like 'Up, Up and Away'
that were sung by Andy Williams and Glen Campbell amongst others.
Coming from such a pedigree would perhaps make angry young men rebel and
make unlistenable music far removed from their father's trademark, but
the two sons developed a massive passion for the craft of traditional song-writing.
Based in the now Jerry Springer famous Chicago, the Webb Bros. joined together
and wrote and recorded the songs that appeared on their July 1999 album
"Beyond the Biosphere" which has produced a terrific critical response
from the NME and your very own Indie Society. They are currently
recording and developing the already written next album which they hope
to release alongside a single in time for a tour during the Summer of 2000.
In the near future there is the first single off 'Beyond the Biosphere'
to release (a radio edit of 'Cold Fingers') in November, and possible support
slots around the same time.
The polite, courteous and enthusiastic Webbs make a welcome change from the bands currently doing the club circuit. They are ready to complement other contemporary bands (they have warm words for Wilco, Cornelius and Beck) as well as enthusing about their older influences. With such a clear, endearing attitude, and the ability to pull over powerful live performances, the Webbs are sure to win many fans over the years to come.
. . . the full interview will be available to indie
society members exclusively through the Indie Society Newsletter available
at the Fresher's Fayre, and through mail-outs. As a taster, we have
selected special audio samples from our interview, which we would like
to call the 'WEBB BANK'. Anyone with a soundcard will be able
to enjoy them!
